Presently, two primary airlines, Drukair and Bhutan Airlines, facilitate flights into the country, ensuring convenient connections for visitors.
Private jet travel is also feasible upon securing requisite approvals from the pertinent authorities, granting additional flexibility to those opting for personalized travel experiences.
Furthermore, entry into Bhutan is viable via land routes, notably through Phuentsholing, while Indian guests have the option of alternative entry points such as Gelephu, Samdrup Jongkhar, and Samtse.
For internal travel within Bhutan, domestic flights efficiently connect various regions, including Bumthang, Gelephu, Yongphula, and Trashigang, enhancing accessibility to the diverse landscapes and cultural offerings within the country

Bhutan stands out for its meticulous travel regulations, designed to safeguard its rich culture, pristine landscapes, and time-honored traditions. Consequently, most nationalities are required to obtain a visa prior to entering the Kingdom, a process typically completed at least seven working days before the intended arrival date.
We extend comprehensive support throughout the visa application procedure. This entails possessing a passport valid for a minimum of 6 months from the arrival date, along with evidence of return flights, travel insurance, and confirmed accommodation bookings.
For the convenience of travelers, nationals from Bangladesh and the Maldives have the option to obtain a visa on arrival, or for a more streamlined process, they can choose to apply online in advance. Indian nationals, on the other hand, necessitate a permit, which can be acquired either online or upon arrival.”

Sustainable Development Fee
Bhutan, a nation with a population of less than a million, has long been deliberate in controlling the influx of travelers crossing its borders. Demonstrating its customary foresight, the Kingdom has re-emerged on the global stage with innovative measures aimed at safeguarding its natural wonders and cultural treasures while enhancing the overall tourist experience. The introduction of the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) at a daily rate of USD $100 per person signifies a commitment to carbon-neutral tourism, ensuring the preservation and elevation of Bhutan’s allure as an increasingly exclusive and sought-after travel destination.
Effective from September 1, 2023, the Royal Government of Bhutan has updated its SDF policy, implementing reduced rates that apply universally to all visitors regardless of their duration of stay:
- $100 per adult per day
- $50 per child (ages 6 to 12) per day
Visitors aged 13 years or older at the time of travel will be subject to the adult rate. These revised rates are valid until August 31, 2027, reflecting Bhutan’s ongoing dedication to fostering sustainable tourism practices while ensuring a remarkable and responsible travel experience for all
